Dr. Maria Lapinski is Director of the Michigan State University (MSU) Health and Risk Communication Center: Healthy People-Healthy Planet, an interdisciplinary research, teaching, and public engagement network of over 50 faculty. She is appointed as a Professor in the Department of Communication and Michigan Ag-Bio Research at MSU. Dr. Lapinski’s research on social norms has examined the things that make normative influence stronger or weaker (that is, the moderators of the norm-behavior relationship). Most recently, her work on the role of financial incentives and social norms has focused on the development of the Financial Incentives in Normative Systems (FINS) model which addresses how incentive programs can change the ways in which norms shape behaviors.
