Monique Mitchell Turner is Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication at Michigan State University. Her research focuses on the role of emotion in message design and message processing. She is trained in persuasion and applies it to health and risk communication, with work on message design and evaluation, risk perception and the processing of health risk messages; her recent work includes the intersections of discrete emotions and social norms.

She received her Ph.D. in Communication from Michigan State University. Before her current role she held faculty positions at the University of Oklahoma, the University of Texas and the University of Maryland, and was an Associate Dean at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University.
